Dan Lanning hasn’t had any problems landing the best of the best from the west coast since he first arrived at Oregon in late 2021.
That trend has played out once again during the 2027 recruiting cycle as the Ducks now have a commitment from one of the region’s top defensive back prospects.
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) four-star cornerback Hayden Stepp announced his commitment to Oregon on Wednesday, July 1, afternoon choosing the Ducks over Alabama and California.
247Sports ranks the 6-foot-3.5, 185-pounder as the No. 61overall player, No. 6 cornerback and No. 1 player in Nevada for the 2027 cycle.
The USA TODAY High School Sports composite ranking, a ranking based on the composite rankings from industry leaders, has Stepp as the No. 47 overall player in the class and No. 8 cornerback.
Through his first years of high school football, Stepp tallied 24 tackles, eight pass breakups and three interceptions. Last season he played a pivotal role in Bishop Gorman’s fifth straight state title run, recording 24 tackles and four pass breakups on the rare chances he was thrown at.
