The son of a Washington legend will follow in his father's footsteps and don the purple and gold.
Three-star offensive tackle Tye Kennedy of Mountain View (Ariz.), the son of College Football Hall of Famer Lincoln Kennedy, committed to the Huskies on Wednesday, giving Jedd Fisch and senior director of player personnel Matt Doherty their second offensive line commit of the day after Washington secured four-star lineman Gecova Doyal of in-state Puyallup just before Kennedy's announcement.
With Doyal projected to move inside in college, however, Kennedy's commitment carries more weight than just the legacy of his last name. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, most recruiting analysts think Kennedy can stay at tackle if he can continue to fill out his frame. That gives Washington a 2027 recruit at all three spots on the line: Kennedy at tackle, Doyal at guard, and Reis Russell at center.
Of those three, Kennedy will be the furthest from immediate playing time, but Washington has built the depth on the line to give him some time to fill out. Starting left guard John Mills could kick out to right tackle to replace the graduating Drew Azzopardi in 2027, while Kodi Greene would be entering his sophomore season. Mills, a Freshman All-American in 2025, probably should be expected to declare for the NFL Draft after that 2027 season as a junior.
That could open a spot for Kennedy as a second-year player at right tackle, but he could also be in the mix to replace Greene at left tackle in 2029, considering Greene's recruiting pedigree also suggests he'll be on his way to the NFL after his junior year.
Kennedy's commitment also continues Washington's strong run in Arizona under Fisch. He joins four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf, four-star running back Jeremy Adeyanju, four-star wide receiver Dontay Tyson, three-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney, punter Nolan Balke, and long snapper Braylon Logan as recruits committed to the Huskies from the Copper State.
With Kennedy and Doyal aboard, Washington now has 23 commitments in the 2027 class, ten of whom are composite blue-chip recruits. Kennedy will be among those looking for a strong senior season to earn a fourth star, along with edge rusher Chaz Gray, tight end Zach Albright, cornerback Maurice Williams, and linebacker Isaiah Leilua, among others.
