Originally from South Carolina, Joshua Dobson played his first three seasons of high school football at Catawba Ridge in Fort Mill. However, he transferred a state north for his senior season to play at William Hough.

Once his high school career comes to an end, his future lies back in his home state.

On Wednesday, July 1, the five-star cornerback announced his commitment to South Carolina. He chose the Gamecocks over Auburn, Michigan and Texas A&M.

247Sports ranks the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder as the No. 8 cornerback and No. 5 player in North Carolina for the 2027 cycle. The USA TODAY High School Sports composite ranking, a ranking based on the composite rankings from industry leaders, has Dobson as the No. 15 overall player in the class and No. 3 cornerback.

Dobson played in eight games last season, recording four tackles and a pass breakup to go along with two receiving touchdowns and a kickoff returned for a touchdown.

As a sophomore, Dobson broke onto the scene totaling 48 tackles, 10 pass breakups and three interceptions. He also scored twice on kickoffs.

Dobson gives Gamecocks a much-needed recruiting win

To say that the 2027 recruiting cycle for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks has been a struggle would be an understatement.

Prior to Dobson’s pledge, 247Sports ranked the Gamecocks’ class as the 57th best in the cycle with only 13 prior commitments. Of those 13 commitments, three were rated as four-star prospects.

South Carolina has now landed a five-star pledge in three its last four recruiting classes.
