The LSU Tigers have been going after a couple of members of the 2027 Texas Longhorns recruiting class, and just got one of them as Greedy James flipped his commitment on Thursday.

James revealed his decision live on the 247Sports YouTube Channel. He had been committed to the Longhorns since early last December, but Corey Raymond and the Tigers had to go grab who many view as one of the best at his position.

"Corey Raymond is known as the best DB developer in the country; he's the reason for it," said James on why he decided to make the flip. He also said he's excited to play for Lane Kiffin because of his "football mind."

247Sports ranks James as the No. 87 overall player in the country, the No. 5 safety and the No. 11 player from the state of Texas. The composite rankings are a little bit lower on him at 282/24/43.

James is the first safety and second defensive back to join the 2027 class. LSU was supposed to hear about the commitment of Jayden Anding, a four-star safety and brother of current Tigers cornerback Aiden, on Wednesday but that got delayed.

Perhaps LSU hearing news of James' flip could have forced some cold feet, but there could still be room for both players. James is also someone who can player cornerback if they do get into a logjam of talent in the safety room, should both players commit.

The Tigers have been trying to show that they are here to compete with the big dogs in the NIL world with Kiffin at the helm, and this is even more evidence. LSU is back in a spot where they can get kids from Texas to flip away from the Longhorns.

There is also a great precedent for defensive backs using the nickname "Greedy" with the Tigers, as Greedy Williams second round NFL draft pick back in 2019.
