Michigan State football is going on the road to Iowa City for a matchup against the Iowa Hawkeyes, looking to put an end to a seven game losing streak. When the Spartans take the field at Kinnick Stadium, a multitude of different things could happen.

For one, the Michigan State quarterback room grows increasingly complicated. Aidan Chiles obviously got injured in game prep for Penn State, keeping him out. Meanwhile, Alessio Milivojevic took an absolute beating against Penn State, getting drilled a multitude of times. Following that game, and seeing what we saw in the game, it is no surprise when there is rumblings that he might be shaken up.

So, if Milivojevic can't go, or is dinged up in the game, and Chiles is still not ready to go, who does that leave the Spartans having in the QB room?

The answer would be redshirt freshman Ryland Jessee or true freshman Leo Hannan.

Jessee was a surprise signing day flip for the Spartans in 2024, coming in at the same time as Milivojevic, flipping to MSU from Utah State. Hannan was the QB of the 2025 recruiting class, a 3-star prospect from Long Beach, California. Neither have taken a snap in their collegiate careers just yet.

Obviously, Jonathan Smith and company would prefer it to be Milivojevic or Chiles running their offense, but injuries happen, and with both guys dinged up, it might not be crazy for one of these two freshmen to get their first game action.
