The Oklahoma Sooners head into the 2026 season with arguably the most talented team of the Brent Venables era. It’s a team with stars on both sides of the ball and potentially All-Americans all over the field. Oklahoma’s David Stone is considered one of the best players in college football and ranked as the No. 31 player in the nation, according to Pro Football Focus’ Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman.
Stone is among the best defensive tackles in college football and a player who has already been projected as a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. His unique blend of size, athleticism, quickness, and strength makes him a force in the middle of Venables’ defense. The expectation is that Stone will have an even bigger year than the one he had in 2025.
Stone’s potential stands out even on an exceptionally talented Oklahoma defense that carried the team to the College Football Playoff last season. His 26 pressures tied for the third most among SEC defensive tackles in 2025. Even more impressive, he ranked second among FBS defensive tackles in run-stop rate (13.0%), trailing only Ohio State‘s Kayden McDonald. – Pro Football Focus
Stone led the Oklahoma Sooners in pass rush snaps in 2025 and was fourth on the team in total pressures and third in Pro Football Focus’ stops metrics. Despite seeing a ton of attention from opposing offensive lines, Stone was a force in the middle, collapsing pockets and disrupting run plays.
As the Sooners look to get back to the College Football Playoff for the second consecutive year, look for Stone to be a catalyst for the OU defense.
