Alex Golesh has made progress since being hired as Auburn football's head coach last November. From changing the culture to building a strong recruiting class, Golesh is off to a hot start in his first Power Five head coaching role.
Auburn fans have high opinions of Golesh, but how do his peers view him? Athlon Sports reached out to several SEC assistant coaches to provide anonymous reviews of several SEC head coaches and published the results in its preseason magazine.
One coach believes that Golesh will pair well with Auburn and can lead them to quick success.
"Honestly, (Alex Golesh) is a pretty good fit. You see him paired with DJ (Durkin), and he's a grinder. I see how the system can be attractive. You bring your quarterback with you, and there's not a learning curve there. I could see them having success."
The key part of Golesh's offense is quarterback Byrum Brown, who threw for over 3,000 yards in two of his three seasons at USF under Golesh's leadership and also reached the 1,000-yard mark in rushing last season.
Not only is Golesh's quarterback with him on the Plains, but four of USF's top five receivers from last season's squad are also in Auburn and will compete for spots in the rotation. Golesh will be as comfortable as possible as he tries to navigate a tough SEC slate and lead Auburn to a bowl bid, its first in three seasons.
