Former Texas football coach Mack Brown—who led the Longhorns to two BCS National Championship appearances, including a win over USC to go undefeated through the 2025 regular season and 2006 Rose Bowl—can’t seem to get enough of returning starting Arch Manning. As an incoming redshirt junior, Manning currently awaits the opportunity help current powerhouse program leader Steve Sarkisian lead the Longhorns to their College Football Playoff appearance in four seasons.
“I’m so impressed with Arch because he will listen. He will ask questions. He will ask me questions at practice,” Brown explained on a recent episode of The Stampede, according to a recent Sports Illustrated report. Brown went on to mention Manning’s leadership abilities, and how his name, which is often cited among American football royalty thanks to his grandfather and uncles, has only aided in his development as a signal caller.
Brown has helped his share of good quarterbacks play for him during his days in Austin.
Some names fans undoubtedly remember:
Vince Young, who led Texas to their last national championship win under Brown in 2005-2006.
Colt McCoy, who was forced to sit out after a first-half injury during Texas’ last appearance in a national championship game following the 2009 regular season. The Longhorns went on to lose to Alabama that night, which in turn ignited former Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s legendary run with the Crimson Tide.
