South Carolina’s recruiting run shows no signs of slowing down. On Friday evening, four-star offensive lineman Nate Carson became the latest in-state prospect to commit to Shane Beamer’s 2027 class, picking the Gamecocks over Georgia, Clemson, and Colorado.

Carson, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound standout from Irmo High School in Columbia, became South Carolina’s third blue-chip commitment in as many days. His pledge followed five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson on Wednesday and four-star safety Davion Jones on Thursday, giving the Gamecocks three of their four highest-rated commitments in the 2027 class alongside four-star defensive lineman John Archer.

The local prospect is regarded as one of South Carolina’s top recruits. Carson ranks as the No. 269 overall player nationally, the No. 23 offensive tackle, and the No. 6 prospect in South Carolina, according to the 247Sports Composite. Rivals Industry Ranking lists him No. 221 overall, the nation’s No. 14 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 5 player in the state. Meanwhile, 247Sports ranks him No. 184 nationally, No. 24 among offensive tackles, and assigns him a 90 four-star rating.

Carson’s recruitment featured several momentum shifts. Tennessee led early in the process, Alabama emerged as a contender last year, Georgia gained significant ground during the spring, and Clemson shortly became the favorite after his official visit in May. Georgia again appeared to lead following Carson’s visit to Athens before the Gamecocks reclaimed momentum by hosting him on his final official visit during the June 19 weekend.

South Carolina’s persistent recruiting effort ultimately paid off. Carson had visited Columbia more than 15 times during his recruitment, while his relationship with Beamer, director of recruiting Sam Serbay, new offensive line coach Randy Clements, and assistant offensive line coach Jason Smith played a major role in his final decision.

The Gamecocks view Carson as a player capable of lining up at multiple positions along the offensive front. While Clements and Smith project him as an SEC offensive tackle, Rivals lists him as a future interior lineman, with both 247Sports and ESPN classifying him as an offensive tackle. He has earned praise for his strong base, consistent hand placement, effective pass protection technique, and positional versatility, making him as a high-major prospect with multi-year starter potential.

Carson became South Carolina’s 16th commitment in the 2027 class and the fifth offensive lineman. His commitment also continued the Gamecocks priority of keeping elite in-state talent home, while helping bolster a recruiting class that has gained momentum after climbing from No. 57 to No. 47 nationally following Dobson’s commitment and moving from last to 14th in the SEC rankings.
