College football fans will be able to whet their appetite this month as conference media days take over the calendar However, one FBS conference will not be partaking in the frenzy.
The newly revamped Pac-12 has decided to abstain from having a media day this summer. Deputy commissioner Rick Hart said that it was discussed, but that the bang wasn't ultimately worth the buck.
“Traditionally, you spend a lot of money, you bring everybody together for two or three days, you disrupt camp or whatever’s going on,” Hart told Front Office Sports. “Maybe you get the media there, maybe you don’t. Maybe you get 72 hours of publicity alongside all the other leagues that are doing media days. It’s pretty noisy. There’s a lot of static. And then everybody moves on.”
College football hype kicks into full gear tomorrow with the start of Big 12 media days.
Over the next 4 weeks, 9 of the 10 FBS conference will be hosting their own media days.
The only conference not doing so? The re-launching Pac-12.

It is an interesting decision for a once-storied power conference that is looking to reclaim its position as one of the top football factions in the country. A source told Front Office Sports that funding not used for a traditional media day event would go towards other promotional campaigns and events.
