Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall has done a good job recruiting over the course of his seven month tenure, and it continues to improve.
The Florida Gators have been recruiting at a very high level since Jon Sumrall took over as the head coach. They already have 25 players committed to the program, and are likely to get a 26th later on Tuesday afternoon with four-star cornerback Raheem Floyd.
Five-star recruits have been a focus for Sumrall, which makes sense. The Gators have the program cache to land those players. So far, the Gators have landed five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller, while still heavily recruiting defensive lineman Jalen Brewster and wide receiver Easton Royal.
Florida Gators in contention for 2028’s No. 1 overall recruit Brysen Wright
So far, the Gators have just one commitment in the class of 2028. It shouldn’t be a surprise, as signing day is still 17 months away, but they have started making it more of a focus. One oftheir top targets is No. 1 overall recruit, wide receiver Brysen Wright.
Over the last couple of years, the Gators have done a great job at recruiting the wide receiver position, with five-stars Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III being the highlights. Wright’s father, Colby, talked about his son’s recruitment and highlighted the Gators.
“The Florida schools, Miami, Florida, do a good job,” Colby told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. “Texas has done a good job. Ohio State, we have to reestablish stuff there with (Brian) Hartline being gone, but they’ve been communicating.”
It’s important to note that the Gators are in the race for Wright, but they aren’t in the lead; that belongs to the Miami Hurricanes. However, Colby did note some good things about their meeting with the Florida staff.
“Meeting the Florida staff, the brand-new staff was good,” Colby said. “Marcus Davis is a solid guy. I like Marcus. It was good to meet Sumrall. We’ve heard a lot of good things about him. We’ll see how it all comes together this fall.”
Will that be enough to get Wright on campus this year? Hopefully, it is and they can continue to make headway.
