Colorado football has fallen off of the radar a bit heading into the 2026 season after a dreadful first year without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. However, whether the Buffs are winning games or not, you know that head coach Deion Sanders is going to make headlines in the media.

He did that once again this summer when it was revealed that the polarizing head coach has opted not to be featured in EA Sports College Football 27, which launches officially on Thursday. On Tuesday at Big 12 football media days, Sanders spoke about why he is not in the game.

“I don’t know about the video games,” Sanders said. “I have a wonderful team that handles a lot of business for me. If I’m not in the game, that means they wasn’t paying enough. It probably didn’t fit where we’re going right now.”

Sanders is under a lot of pressure coming into the 2026 season. Despite going 9-3 and Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy in the 2024 season, Colorado took a major step back after he left for the NFL last season. The Buffs rotated through bad quarterback after bad quarterback and suffered on defense, all while their issues in the run game from years prior continued to be an issue. As a result, they finished just 3-9 and were one of the worst teams in the Big 12.

Julian Lewis is back for his sophomore season at quarterback for Colorado, which inspires some optimism that CU may be able to get back on the right track this season. However, the Buffs lost a number of other key pieces, including star left tackle Jordan Seaton, in the portal this offseason.

Regardless, the Buffs once again brought in a ton of new faces in the transfer portal to surround Lewis with some more talent, so the expectation in Boulder will be to get more wins and at least get back to a bowl game. whether they can do that or not remains to be seen, but Sanders’ seat will be getting hot if he can’t get that accomplished.
