After locking up four-star Blake Roskopf in the 2027 cycle, the Washington Huskies are in search of a quarterback in the 2028 class and are reportedly among the top suitors for one of the nation's top prospects, five-star Christopher Vargas.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound product of St. John's Prep in Danvers, Massachusetts, who is ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 2 quarterback in the nation by 247Sports, appears to be moving closer to a decision, and has listed the Huskies alongside Ohio State, UCLA, and USC as his top contenders. However, Jedd Fisch's coaching staff is far from the leader.

Rivals' Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong both logged predictions for the talented signal caller to choose coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, as Fisch and the Huskies continue their trend of looking for bigger quarterbacks for the post-Demond Williams Jr. era.

"Lanky pocket passer that wins with ball placement," 247Sports' Andrew Ivins wrote in his evaluation of Vargas. "Utilizes clean mechanics to generate impressive torque…Frequently fires from a firm base as he frames up targets…Not the most dynamic mover, but will take a hit…Must keep progressing, but has the ingredients to be a high-level facilitator."

Fisch's coaching staff has continued its push to establish itself as a coast-to-coast presence, but has yet to see it pay off in Massachusetts. In 2026, the Huskies made a late push to flip four-star defensive lineman Carter Gooden from UCLA before he eventually wound up at Tennessee, before trying to insert themselves in the race for his teammate at powerhouse Tabor Academy, 2027 four-star quarterback Peter Bourque, after he backed off a pledge to Penn State and eventually wound up back with coach James Franklin at Virginia Tech.

As the Huskies continue their hunt for a 2028 signal caller, four-star legacy Titus Huard and three-star in-state prospect AJ Tuivaiave appear to be some of the top names to keep an eye on.
