Clemson football makes it official, adds five new players to roster

Clemsonfootball has added five walk-on transfers to its 2026 roster as the Tigers continue adjusting to college football’s new roster structure ahead of preseason camp.

The newest additions are offensive lineman Danny Stein (Furman), quarterback Colson Brown (Georgia Tech/Anderson), cornerback Davion Joyner (Limestone), wide receiver Grady Sherrill (North Carolina/South Dakota) and long snapper J.R. Buckner (Auburn). All five join the Tigers as walk-ons, adding depth at multiple positions as the roster continues to take shape.

The additions come as programs continue navigating the 105-man roster limit that took effect following the House v. NCAA settlement. Players who qualify under grandfather provisions can remain on the roster beyond that cap, allowing Clemson to carry more than 105 players. Clemson’s online roster currently lists 122 players, including 21 who began their college careers at another program.

Clemson also announced a designated student-athlete (DSA) walk-on opportunity in January, giving eligible players a chance to join the program under the updated roster rules. The latest additions are part of that effort to strengthen depth while adapting to the new scholarship and roster structure.

Stein spent the 2025 season at Furman before joining the Tigers, while Brown began his college career at Georgia Tech in 2023 before transferring to Anderson for the 2024 season. Joyner arrives after playing two seasons at Limestone.

Sherrill spent three seasons at North Carolina before appearing in eight games at South Dakota during the 2025 season. Buckner joins Clemson after spending the 2024 campaign at Auburn, giving the Tigers another option at long snapper as they continue filling out the roster ahead of the season.
