Knox Kiffin, the son of LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin, is a three-star quarterback in the 2028 college football recruiting class.

2028 three-star quarterback Knox Kiffin, the son of LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin, said last fall that he’s not going to play for his dad in college.

“I’m definitely not going to play for my dad,” said Knox to On3. “I want to do my own stuff.

“I understand what Shedeur (Sanders) did but I don’t want to be in the position for fans to say, ‘The only reason you’re playing is because of your dad.’ I want to beat my dad,” continued Knox. “I want to play against him, not play with him….He understands. Sometimes he’ll be like, ‘Oh, you should play with me,’ but he understands that I want to start my own thing, my own legacy.”

A lot of fans rolled their eyes at that comment, assuming that eventually he’d end up playing for Lane, but Knox appears to be sticking to his guns.

According to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, the Missouri Tigers currently hold the edge in Knox’s recruitment.

“After a string of visits this offseason across the SEC and more, Missouri is an early frontrunner for the three-star QB,” noted Spiegelman this week.

Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt are also in the mix for Knox.

If Knox lands at Missouri — and that could happen in the not-too-distant future with 2028 quarterback recruits already jockeying for spots — he would play against the Tennessee Vols in Knoxville in 2029.

Knox was born when his dad was the head coach at Tennessee.

But contrary to urban legend, he wasn’t named after the city of Knoxville.

“No, my mom saw it in a book,” said Knox in an interview with WAFB’s Jacques Doucet earlier this year. “It means strong. Everyone thinks it’s from Knoxville, but I was actually born in, like, the Oakland area… everyone likes to say it’s from Knoxville, but it’s really not. It’s a coincidence.”

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how fans on Rocky Top react if Knox ends up playing against the Vols in Knoxville in a few years.
