Texas A&M's 2026 schedule among Top 10 'toughest' nationally

Texas A&M’s 2026 schedule isn’t considered the toughest nationally, but compared to last season, the Aggies will once again face LSU and Missouri on the road, combined with South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma, facing the Crimson Tide for the first time since coach Mike Elko took over, and will travel to Norman for the first time since 2009 before departing for the SEC in 2012.
After leading the Aggies to the College Football Playoff for (sorry for the overusage) the first time in program history, Mike Elko accomplished two key goals, including seeing a record 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, as his offseason premonition came to fruition.
This offseason, Texas A&M returns 65% of its 2025 roster, adds 17 transfer portal additions, and with starting quarterback Marcel Reed back under center, the sky is once again the limit. According to nearly every preseason top-25 ranking, now including ESPN’s updated FPI standings, Texas A&M is ranked 11th with nearly a 40% chance of returning to the CFP and enters the year with the 9th “toughest” schedule in the country.
Among the other 15 SEC programs, Oklahoma (2), Texas (3), Kentucky (4), Ole Miss (5), Mississippi State (6), and the Florida Gators (7) have tougher schedules, but until the games are played, this is all based on speculation, primarily using 2025 records and talent level for each team.
Texas A&M will be favored in every home game this season, while the regular season finale vs. Texas will likely be a toss-up. Needing to match last season’s record, or at least finish with 10 wins to have a shot at making it back to the CFP, a 4-1 or 3-2 road record is absolutely mandatory.
