Auburn football landed another talented defensive back to its 2027 recruiting class on Saturday when three-star safety James Branch committed to Auburn over Virginia Tech and home-state program Maryland.
Branch is Auburn’s 26th commitment to its 2027 class and the fourth from Maryland, joining safety Kynair Crumb and EDGE rushers James Pace and Rion Jackson. How much did Auburn’s recruiting ranking improve with Branch’s pledge?
Unfortunately, Auburn did not climb up the rankings, but they did not fall either. Auburn remains No. 11 in 247Sports’ 2027 recruiting rankings after hauling in Branch and ranks No. 6 among SEC programs. Auburn’s 2027 haul has 26 members, broken down by 10 four-stars and 16 three-stars according to 247Sports. Auburn’s average commitment rating is 88.77, and its overall score from 247Sports is 243.07.
Branch is the 20th-ranked commit in Auburn’s class, trailing three-star wide receiver Cedrick Simmons and leading offensive lineman Jaylon Moore. He is also the fifth safety to commit to Auburn, joining Chance Gilbert, Knyair Crumb, Nasir Banks, and Preston Williams.
Branch’s commitment ensures Auburn will have quality depth at safety for several seasons, and those five players will get the chance to learn under Eric Winters, AnQuon Fegans, and Kaleb Harris, who are expected to be the leaders in the safety room in 2027.
Here is a look at where Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class ranks among its SEC counterparts after James Branch’s commitment.
