Ryan Day and his program have had a busy start to the summer when it comes to recruiting. Since June, Ohio State has earned seven commitments from some of the nation’s top talents. Of these commitments, the Buckeyes earned one in their 2028 class, one in their 2029 class and five in the current 2027 cycle.
It is safe to say the summer months have been kind to Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ 2027 class now sits at No. 7 in the 247Sports Class Rankings and contains 18 members — and they aren’t finished.
Ohio State is looking to continue to reap the rewards of a busy spring hosting recruits on both official and unofficial visits, as there are still multiple targets set to commit soon or expected to commit soon.
Below are some updates on what are likely Ohio State’s top three remaining targets in this cycle.
Five-star RB David Gabriel Georges
Quite possibly Ohio State’s top remaining target is 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges (Chattanooga, TN / Baylor School) who has the Buckeyes in his top three schools alongside Tennessee and Ole Miss.
Gabriel Georges has had a commitment date scheduled for July 22 for weeks, and we now know he will be committing at 5:30 pm ET on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel. The battle for his services has understandably been a battle between all three of his finalists, but it does feel like Ohio State and Tennessee have the upper-hand on the blue-chip prospect.
Gabriel Georges is the No. 2 RB in the 247Sports Composite and is the No. 10 national recruit. He has visited Ohio State numerous times, including an official visit with the Buckeyes on May 29.
His official visit with Ohio State was his first of three and it allowed Ohio State to set the bar incredibly high. Shortly following his visit, the Buckeyes were viewed by many as the leaders in his recruitment but Tennessee never went away.
Gabriel Georges will reportedly receive one of the highest NIL offers in college football recruiting history, and the ever-evolving aspect of NIL is one of the biggest reasons Tennessee has been putting up such a tough battle, not that Ohio State is trying to slight him.
Additionally, it was reported Monday that Gabriel Georges is still undecided as we quickly approach his decision date. He recently spoke with Chris Low of On3.com and said, “It’s hard. You feel this way, like you know, and then it’s sort of 50-50. People will say the 22nd of July is far off, but honestly for me, it’s pretty close.”
Four-star DL Karlos May
Another blue-chip prospect still considering Ohio State that is set to commit soon is four-star defensive lineman Karlos May (Birmingham, AL / Ramsay) who has a commitment date set for July 18.
Like the above Gabriel Georges, May has also whittled down his list of suitors heading into his announcement this month. May’s finalists look to be Florida State, Georgia, Auburn and Ohio State and he took official visits with all of them.
Opposite of Gabriel Georges, the Buckeyes were the last team he took his official visit to which gave the Buckeyes the chance to leave a lasting impression on him and it appears they did just that. While he has kept his recruitment rather close to his chest, Ohio State is viewed as the slight favorite to land his services.
Ohio State has built a more than impressive haul along the defensive front in its 2027 class with five-star edge DJ Jacobs, five-star DL Marcus Fakatou, four-star edge Wyatt Smith and four-star edge Prince Goldsby.
If Ohio State is able to add May to that group, this will be one of the best hauls alongside the defensive line in recent memory for the Buckeyes.
May is the No. 15 DL in the 247Sports Composite and is the No. 132 national prospect.
Five-star WR Monshun Sales
If there is one position Ohio State doesn’t have to prove itself at when it comes to recruiting and production on the field, it is wide receiver.
Ohio State saw former WR coach Brian Hartline leave to become the head coach at USF this offseason but new WR coach Cortez Hankton has taken control of the reigns rather quickly, and impressively.
The Buckeyes already have one commitment at the position from one of the best in the nation with five-star Jamier Brown and they added strong depth in June with three-stars Deontay Moore and Jordan Donahoo. However, Hankton is also targeting another blue-chip prospect at the position in five-star Monshun Sales (Indianapolis, IN / Lawrence North).
Ohio State has long been targeting Sales and because of this, has always been one of his top schools. That being said, the home-state school Indiana has long looked to be the favorites to land him. He took official visits with both schools as well as with Alabama, Texas, LSU and Miami.
Sales recently announced a commitment date of July 17 and will be deciding between Indiana, Alabama, Texas, LSU and Ohio State. The Hoosiers are the favorites heading into the recruitment but Hankton and Ryan Day will not give up easily in this one.
Sales is the No. 2 WR in the 247Sports Composite and he is the No. 8 national recruit.
