3 potential flip targets for Michigan Football in 2027 recruiting class

With official visit season over and recruiting slowing down a bit, most of the Michigan Wolverines’ targets on the trail have already made a commitment. Some of those players have picked the Wolverines, while others have made a commitment to a different program.
Here are three names to watch (and hope) for Michigan Football to pry from their current commitments before the end of the cycle in December.
5-star CB Joshua Dobson
- Commitment: South Carolina
- Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 12 nationally, No. 3 CB, No. 1 in North Carolina, 97.31 rating
The elite cornerback and athletic freak committed to the Gamecocks earlier this month after they, according to On3’s Pete Nakos ($), offered him an NIL deal “as high as $1.5 million.”
Dobson would also be a luxury — an expensive one — for Michigan based on how this 2027 secondary is shaping up with four-stars in cornerback Monsanna Torbert, nickel/safety Tavares Harrington, cornerback Blake Jenkins and cornerback Darius Johnson, as well as three-star safety Charles Woodson Jr. However, there is no such thing as too much talent, and there are few high schoolers equipped with the traits and upside of Dobson.
4-star WR Dakota Guerrant
- Commitment: Oregon
- Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 42 nationally, No. 7 WR, No. 1 in Michigan, 95.46 rating
The Harper Woods, Michigan native may have sided with Dan Lanning and the Ducks, spurning his in-state Wolverines in the process. However, he still has another year of high school ball, and these commitments appear more volatile than ever with the landscape of college athletics.
Can offensive coordinator Jason Beck and sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood display a more pass-fluent offense this fall? That remains to be seen, but should Underwood tap into that potential, it could mark a new era of attracting elite wide receivers such as Guerrant.
3-star WR Charles “Tre” Britton III
- Commitment: Missouri
- Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 728 nationally, No. 92 WR, No. 11 in Michigan, 87.10 rating
Along with Miami (FL), Michigan was a finalist for the talented Britton, who put up a monster junior campaign for Belleville with 49 catches for 912 yards and 13 touchdowns. Should Guerrant stick with his commitment to Oregon, Britton would be a nice pivot option to bolster a 2027 receivers group that features only four-star Quentin Burrell as of today.
Similar to Guerrant, Britton is one of those prospects who has shown interest in the Wolverines, even with an entirely new coaching staff. Whittingham and company should certainly have their eyes set on building new relationships, but it would not hurt to do due diligence over the next several months.
