Mike Elko may be the architect of Texas A&M football’s No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, but Tony Jerod-Eddie is quickly becoming the wrecking ball doing the dirty work.
The Aggies’ co-defensive line coach has turned into one of the hottest recruiters in college football, personally helping Texas A&M secure five commitments from a group overflowing with blue-chip defensive talent.

Jerod-Eddie’s work has earned him the nation’s No. 1 recruiter ranking, and that distinction doesn’t look like a fluke.
His list of victories includes five-star cornerback Raylaun Henry, five-star edge rusher Zyron Forstall, four-star defensive linemen Myles Smith and Elijah Patmon, and four-star edge defender Kaden McCarty.
Texas A&M now holds commitments from 26 prospects, including four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen, who recently picked the Aggies over Texas and South Carolina.
The class also features two of the country’s highest-ranked players after the latest Rivals Top 300 update … five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews at No. 2 nationally and five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey at No. 19.
Elko deserves credit for establishing the vision. His staff has sold relationships, communication and development rather than relying solely on facilities, money or recruiting hype.
Jerod-Eddie can make that pitch because he’s lived it.
Before becoming a rising coach, he recorded 147 tackles, seven sacks and five pass breakups during three seasons as a Texas A&M defensive lineman.
He wasn’t selected in the 2012 NFL Draft, but he still carved out a four-year career with the San Francisco 49ers.
That path gives Jerod-Eddie instant credibility with young defensive players. He knows what it takes to survive in the trenches, overcome draft disappointment and turn an opportunity into an NFL career.
He’s also produced results as a developer.
Jerod-Eddie worked with former Aggies defensive tackle Bobby Brown III, who became an important part of the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive rotation and won a Super Bowl during his rookie season.
Brown later secured a three-year, $21 million contract with the Carolina Panthers.
That’s the dream Jerod-Eddie can sell to recruits, and he’s got evidence to back it up.
Texas A&M has experienced highly ranked recruiting classes before, only to watch momentum disappear once the games began. Elko’s challenge is making this class different.

Landing elite prospects is the first step. Developing them into disruptive SEC defenders is what ultimately matters.
With Jerod-Eddie recruiting and coaching the defensive front, the Aggies may finally have someone capable of delivering both.
