Vanderbilt football may not control its own destiny to make the College Football Playoff, according to the committee's latest rankings Nov. 18, in which the Commodores were ranked No. 14.
The Commodores (8-2, 4-2 SEC) did not play this week. They will face Kentucky (5-5, 2-5) at FirstBank Stadium on Nov. 22.
Vanderbilt was ranked No. 14 a week ago. The Commodores did move ahead of Texas after the Longhorns lost to Georgia.
Miami also moved ahead of Vanderbilt up to No. 13.
Oklahoma defeating Alabama was a significant blow to Vanderbilt, as both teams remain ranked ahead of the Commodores. Even with a 10-2 finish, Vanderbilt will likely need one of Notre Dame, Oklahoma or Alabama to lose another game to make the playoff.
The five highest-ranked conference champions will qualify for the playoff, along with seven at-large teams.
