Ohio State football failed to defend their national championship a season ago, falling to Miami (FL) in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. However, Ryan Day has reloaded the roster once again and has one of the best teams in the country heading into 2026.
Of course, this is no surprise to anyone who has been following the Buckeyes during the NIL era. Ohio State is constantly able to lure the best of the best, both out of the high school ranks and the transfer portal, to come to Columbus. Quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith are two of the best high school players that Ohio State has been able to land in recent years, and both of them have developed into superstars.
As a result, Ohio State has very high expectations coming into 2026. On3 Sports college football analyst J.D. Pickell recently ranked the Buckeyes as the No. 3 offense in the country coming into the season, and the presence of Sayin and Smith are a big reason why.

Miami came in at No. 1 on the list after the addition of Darian Mensah, and Oregon got the No. 2 spot thanks to the return of Dante Moore at quarterback. However, it would be no surprise to see Ohio State emerge from the pack as the best offense in all of college football this season.
Smith is one of the best wide receiver prospects in recent memory and could be the No. 1 pick in a 2027 NFL Draft that is loaded with quarterback talent. Sayin is one of the QBs eligible to go pro in 2027, but opinions are mixed on him due to his size and physical tools. Despite that, he is arguably the most accurate quarterback in college football and should be in for another big year.
Around the two stars, Bo Jackson is back at running back and true freshman wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. is a highly-touted recruit who could get the start at wide receiver. Brandon Inniss is another former top recruit who should be heavily involved in the offense under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
