Tennessee defensive line commit receives upgraded recruiting ranking

Tennessee defensive line commit Christian Mays received an upgrade to a four-star prospect, according to Rivals. He now ranks as the No. 1 junior college defensive lineman and the No. 2 junior college player in the class of 2027.

The 6-foot-5, 340-pound prospect is originally from Forsyth, Georgia and played for Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, Colorado. He plays for Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Mississippi.

Tennessee offered Mays a scholarship on May 17. He committed to the Vols on June 6, one day after his official visit.

Mississippi State was the first school to offer Mays a scholarship on May 7. Other schools to offer him scholarships include Western Kentucky, Arkansas, Auburn, North Texas, UAB, Sacramento State and Louisiana Tech.

Tennessee has 16 commitments in its 2027 football recruiting class: linebacker JP Peace, offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler, wide receiver KeSean Bowman, defensive back Carter Jamison and defensive back Brandon Leavell, tight end Malik Howard, cornerback Dylan Haley, linebacker Kenneth Simon II, kicker Ford Fehling, long snapper Sam McKeown, offensive tackle Q’Mari Hudson, athlete Dayon Cooper, safety Marcus Jones and Mays.
