College football is one of the biggest industries in the nation and it has been like that for decades. Teams all around the country bring in hundreds of millions of dollars every year, so it’s no surprise that the programs themselves are worth so much money.
Combine that with the recent monetization of players and the legalization of sports betting, and you get a multi-billion dollar industry that is teeming with rich organizations. The Wall Street Journal named 10 of the college football teams that are worth the money right now, and Penn State found its way onto the list.

The program has been around since the 1880s and is estimated to be worth a whopping $1.41 billion. The Nittany Lions are just ahead of Alabama, which is valued at $1.40 billion, and tied for the No. 7 spot on the list with another prestigious school in Notre Dame.
In terms of the Big Ten, Penn State finds itself part of the big three in the conference, with Michigan and Ohio State being their only rivals worth more. Being a part of this list is a testament to the strong fanbase the program has built over its history and the national brand recognition that the school holds. The Nittany Lions may not be the most successful team in college football, but they are undoubtedly one of the most prestigious.
