Josh Pate Presents an Idea that Could Benefit Many Buckeyes' Rivals

College Football media personality Josh Pate joined his business partners, Bussin' with the Boys, on the Bus and pleaded his case on why he should become commissioner of college football.

This was a bit that started years ago as mostly a joke, but has actually turned more serious as the years have gone by.

The most recent example of it came from the most recent Bussin' show, where Will Compton asked him to present three ideas as to why he should be named commissioner.

The first one that he brought up immediately caught my attention. He said that he would leverage private equity to "compensate for all of the money grabs."

That raises your eyebrow immediately, as the term "private equity" has become almost a curse word in modern business. Private equity, PE, has created a business model that takes the human element out of business. It is simply a huge infusion of money that evaluates a business based on maximum efficiency. Wherever they identify waste, they cut it out. No matter if it is excess snacks in the kitchen or if it is employees that more of a liability than an asset.

Are we sure we want to bring that into college football?

The way Pate argues it, yes absolutely.

There is a lot to debate in college football, but one thing that is absolutely not up for discussion is the fact that College Football is in its purest form when a game is played on campus. No arguments against that will be heard because they are wrong.

Everything about an On-Campus game is right and is the best thing about college football. The flipside is also true; there is nothing worse than a college football game on a neutral field.

The only thing good about it is the payday that the schools get. Pate would insert PE to mitigate that exactly.

The perfect example of this is what is taking place down south between Georgia Tech and one of Ohio State's biggest threats at the National Title, the Georgia Bulldogs.

A game that is supposed to be on Tech's campus has been moved to Atlanta to be played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in order to collect a $12 million check.

This would be the equivalent of Ohio State moving the Michigan game to the Cleveland Browns stadium in order to collect a big check.

That sentence alone should make any fan sick to their stomach. Any game, especially rivalry games, should be played on campus, but sometimes that dollar sign is too big to turn down, especially in today's landscape.

It's a fascinating approach but one that makes sense. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't, but as the price to compete rises in college football, games like this will be more frequent. This idea would help solve it.
