The Oklahoma Sooners have one of the best recruiting classes in college football for the 2027 cycle. The Sooners come in at No. 6 in the Rivals Industry rankings with a score of 92.024.

The 2027 group marks Brent Venables’ sixth recruiting class since taking over at Oklahoma. How does it compare to the recruiting classes Venables has signed so far? Although the class is viewed as one of the nation’s best, it currently ranks fourth among Venables’ six recruiting classes based on Rivals Industry ratings. Here are his classes ranked from best to worst:

  1. 2023: 92.419 (ranking No. 6 in college football)
  2. 2022: 92.170 (ranking No. 8 in college football)
  3. 2024: 92.032 (ranking No. 9 in college football)
  4. 2027: 92.024 (ranking No. 6 in college football)
  5. 2025: 90.193 (ranking No. 16 in college football)
  6. 2026: 89.757 (ranking No. 15 in college football)

One notable trend is that Venables’ three lowest-rated classes have come over the past three recruiting cycles. However, the margin separating the 2027 class from the 2023 group is minimal, leaving plenty of room for movement before signing day.

Recruiting classes also tend to receive a significant ratings boost when they include an elite quarterback prospect. To this point, the 2023 class remains Venables’ only group to feature a consensus five-star quarterback commitment.

While Jackson Arnold ultimately did not develop into Oklahoma’s long-term answer at quarterback, he was one of the highest-rated prospects in the country coming out of high school. The 2027 class, however, may feature the most overall top-end talent across multiple positions. Depending on the recruiting service, prospects such as Cooper Hackett, Kaeden Penny, Seneca Driver, and Gabriel Osborne all have earned five-star recognition, giving Oklahoma one of the most talent-rich classes in the country.

While the 2027 recruiting cycle is far from complete, Oklahoma has positioned itself among the nation’s elite once again on the trail. With several blue-chip prospects already committed and plenty of time remaining before signing day, the Sooners have an opportunity to strengthen the class even further. If Venables can continue adding top-tier talent, this group could ultimately challenge his best recruiting haul since arriving in Norman.
