As the excitement continues to grow, nearing the beginning of the 2026 College Football Season, Oregon Ducks fans are eager to see the program in action.
Head coach Dan Lanning enters the upcoming season with one of his best squads since taking the job, but there are still plenty of questions surrounding the program before Week One.
In a recent article discussing the biggest questions for the top-25 teams ahead of the 2026 season, ESPN's Kyle Bonagura stated that "putting it together when it matters" is the biggest concern for the Ducks.
"The question has become: Can the Ducks put it all together when it matters most? They beat Ohio State in the regular season in 2024, then got run out of the Rose Bowl by the Buckeyes in the playoff," Bonagura stated. "They were competitive against Indiana during the regular season last year, only to no-show again in the playoff rematch against the Hoosiers. This is a team that hasn't quite figured out how to peak in the playoffs, and that's the important next step."
Can Oregon Win it All in 2026?
After two straight seasons of being knocked out of the College Football Playoffs by the eventual National Champions, Lanning and the Ducks will be seeking revenge throughout the course of the 2026 season.
This offseason, Oregon retained multiple veterans from last season, including quarterback Dante Moore and defensive tackle A'Mauri Washington, who both elected to forgo the 2026 NFL Draft. In addition to returning Moore and Washington, the Ducks utilized the transfer portal to fill some of their roster holes by signing former Minnesota Golden Gophers star safety Koi Perich. With a veteran-heavy roster heading into the 2026 season, it's clear that Lanning has built one of his best teams since arriving in Eugene.
However, despite the Ducks possessing one of the best rosters in the nation for the upcoming season, the program's biggest challenge will be overcoming their recent playoff woes. In the last two regular seasons, Lanning's squad finished with an impressive 23-1 record, along with a Big 10 Conference Championship victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions in 2024. But unfortunately, Oregon's incredible runs throughout the regular season have gone unnoticed after failing to reach the National Championship.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Ducks are tied with the Texas Longhorns for the third-best odds to win the 2026 National Championship at +750, while trailing behind the Ohio State Buckeyes (+500) and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+650).
