Ohio State fell short in its pursuit of a coveted wide receiver to a Big Ten rival, but the writing was on the wall. The Indiana Hoosiers landed Monshun Sales, one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle, choosing IU over a host of major programs, including Alabama, Texas, LSU, and the Buckeyes.

Sales is a dynamic playmaker who is ranked the No. 2 wide receiver and the No. 8 overall prospect in the country according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. The 6-foot, 2-inch pass-catcher had been a priority recruit for Ohio State throughout the process.

For OSU, missing out on Sales stings, but losing him to the Indiana Hoosiers makes it even less ideal. The Hoosiers defeated the Buckeyes this past season 13-10 in the Big Ten Championship game in 2025, and now, if head coach Curt Cignetti continues to recruit players like Sales, it is fair to say they will not be going away any time soon.

While a notable loss, Ohio State still seems to be in an OK place, putting together its 2027 class, with it being currently ranked at No. 7 overall in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Team rankings. That ranking might even climb a little, but with names like DJ Jacobs and Jamier Brown as headliners, there certainly won’t be a lack of talent in Columbus in the near future.
