Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have become one of the top recruiting teams in college football in recent years. Most of that has had to do with the top-tier head coach turning the program into a yearly National Championship contender.
Since taking over as the head coach at Oregon back in the 2022 season, Lanning has led the program to an impressive 48-8 record. Since joining the Big Ten conference two seasons ago, the Ducks have produced a 26-3 record and 17-1 record in the conference.
As the team continues to win, recruits continue to want to play for Lanning.
Keeping that in mind, Oregon has become an overwhelming favorite to land a talented quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class. That quarterback is none other than Josiah Boyd.
Back in May, Boyd spoke to Greg Biggins of Rivals and revealed that playing for the Ducks has always been his dream.
"Oregon has always been my dream school since I was young so this one means a lot to me," Boyd said after receiving an offer from Oregon.
Just how close is Oregon to landing Boyd's commitment? One look at Rivals' prediction for where he will land tells the story.
Currently, Rivals is giving the Ducks a 98 percent chance of landing Boyd for their 2028 recruiting class. The next closest team behind them is the Ohio State Buckeyes, who are being given a measly one percent chance of earning his commitment.
Boyd is currently the No. 62 overall player in the nation for the 2028 recruiting class, according to Rivals. He is also ranked No. 5 among quarterbacks.
Hailing from Moreno Valley, CA, Boyd would be a big addition for the future of Oregon football. He has the talent to be a long-term starter for the Ducks.
As Lanning continues to build rosters at Oregon that can continue competing for championships year in and year out, the quarterback position is crucial. Adding a talent like Boyd would be a big step towards the ultimate goal of winning it all.
While things could definitely change, all signs are pointing to the Ducks winning the Boyd sweepstakes when everything is said and done.
