Before Curt Cignetti signed on to become the Indiana football head coach in November of 2023, the Hoosiers did not have much of a ceiling. Heck, even their floor was worryingly low. Their fiery new leader took a hammer to the infrastructure and built a completely different model. Now, fans know better than to set limits. Groundbreaking achievements have become the norm in Bloomington, but the latest one indicates continued growth. Monshun Sales is staying home.

The Indianapolis resident, who is a consensus top-two wide receiver in the 2027 class, is choosing Indiana over Alabama, Texas, LSU and Ohio State, per Hayes Fawcett of Rivals and On3. Sales publicly announced the massive decision on “The Pat McAfee Show” alongside his family, friends, teammates and coaches. He is now the highest-ranked football recruit to ever commit to the Hoosiers.

This is not merely a new Indiana. This is a new reality.

A landmark College Football Playoff appearance during the 2024 campaign was already an incredible accomplishment, but the public tried to make sense of it by pointing to a weak schedule. Last season’s national championship run forever redefined what is possible in this sport and current landscape, but many people have refrained from anointing the Hoosiers as the next gridiron powerhouse. It is becoming harder to drop a “but” after this program reaches a previously unfathomable milestone.

Curt Cignetti led Indiana to the apex without a five-star recruit on his roster. Imagine what he can do with premium talent. Well, fans won’t have to do that anymore. Monshun Sales will be the first top-10 prospect to don the Crimson and Cream, and if Indiana football stays on its current trajectory, several others should follow him to Bloomington.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder will play his senior season at Lawrence North High School, and then he will join one of the most astonishing movements in college sports history.
