On3 college football expert J.D. Pickett released a list of the top 10 defenses going into the 2026 season. Among those featured were the Oregon Ducks at No. 1, the Oklahoma Sooners at No. 2, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at No. 3, and the Georgia Bulldogs at No. 4. Georgia is the second-highest-rated SEC team on the list.
Georgia had a great season in 2025, going 12-2 overall and 7-1 in the SEC. They made it to the Sugar Bowl but lost to Mississippi 39-34 in a close one. The Bulldogs' defense is a good one and was a staple for their team, being ranked 10th in team defense last year. They did have some key players go to the NFL, such as defensive tackle Christen Miller, who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Also veteran linebacker C.J. Allen, who was drafted in the second round by the Indianapolis Colts.
The Bulldogs' defense still has elite safety K.J Bolden and cornerback Ellis Robinson, along with senior linebacker Raylen Wilson. Georgia has talent on defense, so it makes sense why they're ranked as high as they are going into 2026.
Last season, Georgia had the SEC's second-best scoring defense behind Oklahoma. The Bulldogs will look to improve their pass rush after finishing last in the SEC with 20 sacks in 2025.
