Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney is never afraid to speak his mind. The Tigers coach was asked at the ACC Kickoff about the status of a tampering case involving defensive player Luke Ferrelli. Swinney previously accused Ole Miss of tampering with Ferrelli.
“I did my part,” Swinney said, per The Clemson Insider. “The NCAA does not give us an update, so I have no idea.”
Ferrelli is playing this season with Ole Miss. At one point, he was supposed to be playing for Clemson. Swinney has accused the Rebels football program of tampering with Ferrelli, to get him to go to Ole Miss instead.

“Clemson’s Dabo Swinney tells On3 he’s still waiting on NCAA ruling in Ole Miss tampering case. If Ole Miss coach Pete Golding or Rebels get sanctioned, he would “expose rampant tampering in the sport,” sources said,” college football reporter Brett McMurphy wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The NCAA opened an investigation against Ole Miss, almost immediately following Swinney’s claim.
“The NCAA also asked that Ferrelli’s phones be forensically imaged and that each individual’s phone records from December 2025 to January 2026 be submitted to enforcement staff,” ESPN reported.
Swinney has argued that the NCAA needs to do more to stop tampering.
“I’m not trying to get anybody fired, but when is enough enough?” Swinney said on January 23. “If we have rules, and tampering is a rule, then there should be a consequence for that. And shame on the adults if we’re not going to hold each other accountable.”
Time will tell how this investigation proceeds. Clemson opens its 2026 football season on September 5. The Tigers play LSU.
