USA TODAY ranks the Rose Bowl among the worst Big Ten stadiums

The UCLA Bruins are still adjusting to life in the Big Ten Conference. UCLA was one of the more accpomplished teams in the Pac-12 Conference, even if the program hadn’t done much since the turn of the century.

Things are a bit different in the Big Ten, where college football roots run deep while also producing the three most-recent College Football Playoff champions. Many teams would be lucky to call the Rose Bowl home, but in the Big Ten the historic stadium is more middle-of-the-pack than elite.

Paul Myerburg of USA TODAY ranked all 18 of the home stadiums in the Big Ten, with the Rose Bowl ranking at just No. 14. Perhaps the Rose Bowl will climb up these ranks in the years to come once the stadiums’ renovations are complete but not even the gorgeous backdrop of Pasadena can make up for the Rose Bowl’s lackluster environment for UCLA gamedays.

Here’s what Myerburg had to say about UCLA’s home stadium.

“The Rose Bowl itself shares an address but not much else with the Rose Bowl game, including the pageantry and attendance for the granddaddy of college football’s postseason,” Myerburg said. “Another minus is the roughly 30-minute drive from UCLA’s campus, if you’re lucky. But the hype around new coach Bob Chesney could make Pasadena a tougher place for Big Ten teams to visit in 2026.”

Ohio Stadium, the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes topped Myerburg’s list with Autzen Stadium in Eugene and Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley rounding out the top-three. The Rose Bowl ranked last of the Pac-12 transfers to the conference, with Oregon at No. 2, Washington at No. 8 and USC at No. 10.
