Boston College will turn to Dylan Lonergan as its starting quarterback when it faces No. 12 Notre Dame on Saturday.
The Alabama transfer began the season as the Golden Eagles’ QB1 and looked sharp early by throwing eight touchdown passes in his first two games against Fordham and Michigan State.
Since then, the offense has failed to look crisp. Lonergan has just one touchdown and three interceptions in his last two starts, failing to surpass 200 passing yards either game.
Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien benched Lonergan after a loss to Clemson, giving Grayson James two starts. But James was injured against Louisville, prompting O’Brien to turn back to Lonergan in hopes of reigniting the offense.
Through six games, Lonergan has thrown for 1,394 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions. He’ll have his hands full with a Notre Dame defense ranked among the nation’s top 10 in total defense. They'll be eager to pressure Lonergan early.
Boston College welcomes Notre Dame on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
