After a dramatic summer of 2025 when it came to recruiting the quarterback position for the Oklahoma Sooners, it looks like OU is a little over a month away from ending up with one of the best QBs in the class of 2026.

Oklahoma landed a commitment from Celina (Texas) High School’s Bowe Bentley back in June, and he’s expected to sign with the Sooners in December and enroll early, meaning he’d be in Norman for spring football. The four-star prospect has been a bit of a late bloomer in recruiting circles, but he’s rapidly rising up the rankings.

That’s certainly the case at Rivals, as Bentley was inside the top ten of their updated quarterback rankings for the ’26 class. Bentley slotted in at No. 5 on the list, behind only Georgia commit Jared Curtis, Houston commit Keisean Henderson, Texas commit Dia Bell, and Tennessee commit Faizon Brandon.

Bentley is ranked as Rivals’ No. 42 player national in their top 300 rankings. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound passer led the Celina Bobcats to a state championship last season and an undefeated record. He ranked higher than other notable signal-callers in the class, such as BYU commit Ryder Lyons, Arizona State commit Jake Fette, Alabama commit Jett Thomalla, Wake Forest commit Grant Lawless, and Iowa commit Tradon Bessinger.

Bentley also ranks higher than two other players that the Sooners initially pursued at QB in his class. Miami commit Dereon Coleman is Rivals’ No. 24 quarterback in 2026, while one-time OU commit and current Florida State commit Jaden O’Neal is Rivals’ No. 33 quarterback in 2026.

Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle went after Bentley, who was his guy through and through, when he took over the job after the 2024 season. Time will tell if Arbuckle made the right choice, but the recruiting experts sure seem to think that Bentley is one of the best quarterbacks in this class.
