AUSTIN ― In a pregame interview with SEC Network before Vanderbilt football's game against Texas, Diego Pavia compared the matchup to Louis Vuitton vs. an underground yard sale.
The Commodores quarterback was explaining how Vanderbilt's whole team has been overlooked in their football careers, starting with him. Pavia was lightly recruited out of high school before moving to the junior college New Mexico Military Institute, then to New Mexico State before coming to Vanderbilt football.
"This is two opposite sides of the playing field," Pavia said in the interview with Marty Smith. "It’s like the Louis Vuitton vs. freaking some underground yard sale so my people have been slept on, but we know that. We know we’ve been slept on. 7-1 and people still don’t give us credit.”

Pavia noted that Vanderbilt's College Football Playoff hopes are at stake in the game with the Commodores sitting at 7-1 and 3-1 in the SEC entering the matchup.
"It’s for playoff hopes, 8-1 sounds a lot better than 7-2, but we’ve just got to come out here and play our football," Pavia said. "We play Vanderbilt football, no one can mess with us."
However, the Commodores got off to a poor start in the game. They went down 17-0 in the first quarter before getting on the board with a field goal early in the second quarter.
What Diego Pavia said about Arch Manning
Pavia was complimentary of Texas quarterback Arch Manning, who returned for the game after entering concussion protocol in an overtime win over Mississippi State.
"He’s young," Pavia said. "A lot of people gave him critics when he first came out but people have got to understand this is his first time really playing college football, so I think the sky’s the limit for that kid. I wish him nothing but success. A lot of people want to hate each other but there’s enough success to go around for everyone."
