Few players in college football history have made the kind of impact on a program that Tim Tebow was able to make during his days with the Florida Gators.
To this day, Tebow is talked about quite actively within the Gators' fan base. Even though his NFL career did not pan out as hoped, he has remained a prevalent voice in college football as an analyst and has done a lot of other things post-football as well.
With that being said, news came out about Tebow's career this week.
On Monday, July 20, ESPN announced that it had agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension with Tebow for him to stay on as an analyst. That new deal came before multiple high-profile layoffs from the worldwide leader in sports.
"ESPN has secured a multi-year contract extension with sports icon Tim Tebow, who will continue as a college football analyst on SEC Network’s traveling pre-game show SEC Nation," ESPN's statement read.
"The Heisman Award winner and National Championship winning quarterback will also remain as a mainstay in ESPN’s College Football Playoff programming, providing his analysis and insight across ESPN networks."
Tebow also took time to share a statement about his new deal with ESPN.
“I love this game and getting to talk about it every Saturday with the crews on SEC Network and ESPN is a gift I don’t take lightly,” Tebow said. “SEC fans bring a passion that never gets old, and I’m grateful I get to keep doing this alongside people who feel like family.”
Congratulations are in order to the Florida legend. Tebow has become an excellent commentator on college football and Gators fans have thoroughly enjoyed listening to his opinons.
During his playing days at Florida, Tebow put up big-time numbers. He played four seasons with the Gators, completing 66.4 percent of his pass attempts for 9,285 yards, 88 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions, while also running for 2,947 yards and 57 more touchdowns.
In the NFL, Tebow only played in a total of 35 games. He threw for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, while completing just 47.9 percent of his career passes.
Needless to say, the NFL stint was disappointing for Tebow. He showed signs of being a potential starting-caliber signal caller with the Denver Broncos, but that opportunity was short-lived.
Despite the disappointing showing on the professional stage, Tebow has carved out a very successful life for himself following his playing career. This new contract extension is just another sign of Tebow's ability to find success with whatever he does.
