MADISON – The ranks of the Wisconsin football team’s 2026 recruiting class are getting thin.
And right now the group is without an offensive lineman.
Ben Novak, the first player to commit to the class on Oct. 7, 2024, announced his decommittment from UW and his commitment to Indiana on Nov. 19.
The news, which was reported by Rivals, On3 and 247sports, comes two days after Wisconsin lost its other offensive line recruit, Maddox Cochrane of Virginia.
When Novak, who is from Merrillville, Indiana, committed to the Badgers, he had an offer from Indiana. As is often the case, that commitment did not stop Indiana’s recruitment of the 6-foot-6, 315-pound linemen, who is a consensus three-star recruit.
According to Rivals, Novak visited Indiana for the Michigan State game Oct. 18 and made an official visit Nov. 10.
Here is how Novak explained his decision to Rivals.
“How bright the future is, with Coach (Curt) Cignetti being the type of coach he is and the o-line coach Coach (Bob) Bostad and his development of players and producing offensive linemen, it was the best place for me,” Novak told Rivals.
“The strength and conditioning coach really wowed me. His stature and the guideline for his players and you can see through the players it showcased all his success. And the overall homey atmopshere.”
Overall there have been six players who have decommitted for UW this recruiting cycle. Four have come since Oct. 13. The Badgers have added one recruit since then, Qwantavius Wiggins, a running back from Georgia.
