10 Rutgers Football Players Selected to 2027 Shriners Children’s East-West Bowl 1000 Watch List

10 Rutgers football players had their names listed on the Shriners Children’s East-West Bowl 1000 Watch List. This watch list comprises the 1000 players the organization believes have the best chance of making it to the NFL next season and are eligible for this year’s Shriners Children’s East-West Bowl. The 10 Scarlet Knights listed include OL Kwabena Asamoah, DL J’Dan Burnett, DL Malachi Davis, WR KJ Duff, QB Dylan Lonergan, LB Ty Morris, OL Tyler Needham, DL Rondo Porter, RB Antwan Raymond and DB Kaj Sanders.

Asamoah, Duff, and Raymond being named to this list is no surprise based on how many preseason watch lists these three have been named to.

Three Rutgers defensive linemen, two EDGE’s and one DT, have been named to the watchlist, all of whom are transfers. Burnett (EDGE) transfers to Rutgers after spending last year at Tulsa, where he recorded 9.5 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 sacks. Davis (EDGE) put up similar numbers last season at Toledo, where he earned third-team All-MAC honors with 9.5 tackles-for-loss and 5.5 sacks. Porter, a defensive tackle, spent last season at Appalachian State, where he recorded 43 tackles with five for loss and two sacks.

Other defenders who were named include transfer linebacker Ty Morris and safety Kaj Sanders. Last season, at Rice, Morris recorded 88 tackles with 9.5 for loss, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Sanders is expected to bounce back under a new coaching staff after a disappointing season where he recorded 37 tackles and one pass defended.

The two other offensive players named are quarterback Dylan Lonergan and OL Tyler Needham. Needham has been with the Knights for some time, playing in 32 games for Rutgers. Despite being the team’s third option at left tackle last season and battling injuries, Needham held up well and established himself as one of the top guys in the offensive line rotation.

Lonergan, on the other hand, is currently competing for the starting role with last year’s backup quarterback, AJ Surace. Last season at Boston College, Lonergan completed 190-of-284 passes for 2,025 yards and 12 touchdowns.
