A former Nebraska quarterback recently talked in-depth about one of Nebraska's great on-field rivalries. Eric Crouch spoke to Hail Varsity about the history of the Huskers' rivalry with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The two teams have played one another 88 times in a rivalry that began in 1912. Oklahoma leads the all-time series 47-38-3 and has won the last three meetings.

The Huskers and Sooners have also played in many high-profile games against one another. They have met 18 times with both teams ranked in the top ten and four times with the two teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2.

Crouch was 1-1 against the Sooners as the starting quarterback for Nebraska. He spoke to Hail Varsity about how almost every game between the two teams had national title implications.

"The history between Nebraska and Oklahoma was deep. It goes back years and years and there were a lot of trick plays and a lot of competitive games. A lot of titles came down to the Nebraska/Oklahoma game so it really felt like a title game."

Crouch also talked about his famous 2001 matchup when No. 2 Nebraska defeated No. 1 Oklahoma in Lincoln. The quarterback famously caught a 63 yard touchdown passin route to a 20-10 win

"In my senior year (2001) we were playing a strong defense and we really had to earn every inch on offense and it just came down to a play that we executed and once we did that it was game over."

Crouch would go on to win the Heisman Trophy over Florida's Rex Grossman, Miami's Ken Dorsey, and Oregon's Joey Harrington. That season, he ran for 1,115 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing for 1,510 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Nebraska and Oklahoma will renew their rivalry at the end of the decade. The Huskers will play at Norman in 2029 and host the Sooners in Lincoln in 2030.
