A virtual production stage is coming to Tyler Perry Studios through a new partnership with Synapse Virtual Production in Atlanta, Georgia.
The planned soundstage will use LED volume technology, advanced camera tracking and real-time 3D engines to create digital environments around performers during filming, according to Deadline. Tyler Perry Studios and Synapse expect the facility to be completed before the end of 2026.
The companies say the stage will make production more efficient, lower costs and give filmmakers more creative freedom.
Perry also emphasized that adopting new technology would not mean removing the workers behind his productions. He said the collaboration is intended to keep crews working and preserve traditional production jobs while giving artists new ways to build worlds for film and television.
Synapse CEO Justin Diener described the LED soundstage partnership as an opportunity to combine real-time tools with the scale of Tyler Perry Studios. Advisory board member Beau Flynn said the project could strengthen Atlanta’s position as a home for filmmakers while keeping the process human and crew-led.
The announcement arrives after Perry put an $800 million studio expansion on hold in 2024 because of concerns about artificial intelligence and its potential impact on the entertainment industry. That earlier plan would have added 12 soundstages to his Atlanta operation.
Perry officially unveiled his current studio complex in 2019 on the former Fort McPherson Army base in the southern part of Atlanta. The property had 12 soundstages, 40 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places and more than 200 acres of green space, establishing one of the country’s largest production studios and a major Black-owned foothold in the film business.
