Pete Golding finally addressed his relationship with LSU's Lane Kiffin

LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin continued to be a topic of conversation on the second day of SEC media days. Pete Golding, who took over for Kiffin as the head coach at Ole Miss, spoke about his relationship with his former boss.

"Lane and I are good," Golding said. "He did a lot for me and I was very appreciative of how he treated me and my family and learned a lot from him, so I have no ill will towards Coach Kiffin."

There's been plenty of speculation about Kiffin and Golding's relationship over the offseason. Kiffin's exit from Ole Miss was messy. As Kiffin was building his LSU roster, Ole Miss was gearing up for a playoff run. Rumors swirled about LSU recruiting Ole Miss players during the postseason. According to Golding, the drama of last Winter wasn't enough to ruin the relationship the coaches built.

"He texts me on a regular basis, and there are certain things that we'll talk about, and there are certain things that we don't talk about. He's very competitive, just like I'm very competitive, right, and so, obviously, a lot of this went a different direction when now he had a new job with new responsibilities, and he's going to be super competitive to be the best that he can at that job, right, which is his job, and so I can separate the two," Golding said.

Kiffin hired Golding to be Ole Miss's DC in 2023. Under Golding, the Ole Miss defense took a major step forward.

LSU and Ole Miss are set to face off in Oxford in Week 3. It's one of the most anticipated games on the entire 2026 college football schedule.
