Former teammate reveals what the Sooners are getting in Hayden Hansen

The Oklahoma Sooners entered the offseason knowing the tight end position needed a complete overhaul. The position has been one of Oklahoma's weakest areas over the past several seasons, providing little consistent production.
Those struggles ultimately led to Oklahoma moving on from tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley. The Sooners also reshaped the roster, with Jaren Kanak departing for the NFL and Carson Kent, Kaden Helms and Will Huggins no longer with the program. To accelerate the rebuild, Oklahoma added Tennessee Volunteers' transfer Jack Van Dorselaer, Colorado State Rams transfer Rocky Beers and Florida Gators transfer Hayden Hansen, while hiring legendary Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten to lead the position group.
The Sooners believe those additions will strengthen the offense and help the team build on last season's College Football Playoff appearance. During SEC media days, Florida players were asked about what Hansen will bring to the program. Star running back Jadan Baugh described Hansen as a relentless competitor who refuses to back down.
"Hayden's a great player, honestly," Florida Gators running back Jadan Baugh said via OU Nightly. "He can do a lot. I remember this one time, I think we were playing Tennessee or something, and he lost on a rep, or whatever. He told me and the rest of the running backs that it was never going to happen again. So, he's going to be a fighter regardless."
Oklahoma made one of its biggest offseason investments at tight end, signaling how important the position is to the offense moving forward. With Witten leading a completely revamped room and players like Hansen bringing a competitive mentality, the Sooners believe the position can become a meaningful contributor in 2026. If that happens, Oklahoma's offense could take the next step after last year's College Football Playoff run.
