Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin offered little clarity on the three-team race between Florida football, Ole Miss and LSU for his coaching services next season.
Speaking on the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, Nov. 19, the 50-year-old Kiffin would not confirm or deny reports that his family visited Gainesville and Baton Rouge, or that he spoke to Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.
"I'm going to stay on what I've done for six years, which isn't talk about other jobs and that situation," Kiffin said.
The 50-year-old Kiffin has led Ole Miss to three straight 10-wins for the first time in school history. The Rebels (10-1, 6-1 SEC) are in position to make the College Football Playoff and will close the season against rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28. Kiffin said he expects to coach in the game.
Kiffin said he has a strong relationship with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter and that the two talk on a daily basis.
"I love it here," Kiffin said. "It's been amazing and we're in a season that's the greatest run in the history of Ole Miss at this point, having never been at this point. I think it's really exciting … I'm just living in the moment and our players are too."
The Florida Gators (3-7, 2-5 SEC) are targeting Kiffin to turn around its moribund program that is on its way to a fourth season in five years. Kiffin, who led the Rebels to 34 points and 536 yards in Ole Miss's 34-24 win over UF on Nov. 16, brings a play-calling panache that brings back memories of Steve Spurrier, who led the Gators to six SEC titles and one national championship from 1990-2002.
Asked if there was a chance Kiffin could accept a new coaching position before the start of the CFP, Kiffin also declined comment.
"I'm not speaking on other jobs," Kiffin said.
