Matt Campbell Reveals Perfect Traits to Help Win Big Games for Rocco Becht, Penn State

I don't want to say I'm skeptical about how Rocco Becht will look for Penn State, as I've said many times that I'm actually really excited to see him in Happy Valley. However, I do have my fair share of questions about whether he's the perfect option for this program. 

We've seen Penn State land some very good quarterback recruits in the past, and while Becht is a good player in his own right, I don't think he's of the same caliber as some of those other guys.

Again, the Big 12 and Big Ten are completely different, something I've stressed a lot in recent months, which is why I'm a bit worried about how a lot of this will go. Ultimately, however, we have to listen to what higher-ups in the Penn State program are saying, and a lot of them have been positive.

That includes head coach Matt Campbell, who recently suggested that Becht is a gamer and he's excited to put the football in his hands at the end of games when Penn State needs to score.

"Rocco was a huge piece of why we were able to climb out of the hole at Iowa State," Campbell said, per Mark Wogenrich. "His leadership and his humility, and I think just his toughness and grit, were huge pieces of why we had the success we did.

"Some of the greatest moments in the program's history were under Rocco. When you talk about having the ball in his hand at the end of a football game, no matter what happened the last three and a half quarters, that's a guy that you want with the ball in his hand. I think he's proven it with videotape evidence."

Last season wasn't exactly impressive for Becht, who finished with 16 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. He added a touchdown on the ground, so that's something to talk about, but he only had 116 yards on 86 carries.

To end up passing 10,000 yards in his career if things go as planned this year, with 9,274 already in his college career, that isn't going to win Penn State games, so hopefully he's as good as everybody is saying he can be.
