Oregon Loses Out on Top DL Recruit to College Football Powerhouse

Oregon's recruiting heater hit a bump in the road on Thursday after one of its top remaining targets announced his college decision.

Defensive lineman of the 2027 class, Brayden Parks announced his commitment to Notre Dame earlier this afternoon live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.

Parks was ranked the top defensive lineman that hadn’t committed to a program yet, and he was torn between the Ducks and Fighting Irish.

Ultimately, Oregon comes up short in one of the most contested recruiting battles of the cycle.

The rising senior at Brother Rice High School in Chicago is the type of player that would have fit in with Oregon’s elite defensive line.

In his junior season, Parks totaled 7.5 sacks, 61 tackles and 23 tackles for loss.

For a program that has consistently gotten the best out of top-tiered lineman like Bear Alexander and A’Mauri Washington, Parks appeared to be a natural fit for a coaching staff that has built a reputation for maximizing defensive line talent.

It was certainly a tough decision, but Parks ultimately elected to stay with a program that he has deep connections to.

Head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive line coach Chris Patridge pulled out all the stops to bring him in. But not only that, his godfather is Fighting Irish legend Chris Zorich, his cousin is former Irish running back Tony Jones Jr., and he trains with 2027 commit David Folorunsho.

Additionally, 247Sports analyst Brian Dohn logged a crystal ball prediction for Parks to land in South Bend.

Despite making a strong push, Dan Lanning and his staff were unable to overcome the numerous Notre Dame ties.

Missing on Parks doesn't change the long-term outlook of Oregon's defensive line room.

The Ducks still have commitments from defensive linemen Zane Rowe and Achilles Reyna, along with EDGE rushers Rashad Streets, Cameron Pritchett and Josh Christensen.

Oregon continues to assemble one of the nation's most impressive 2027 recruiting classes, particularly along the defensive front where Lanning and his staff have made a clear priority of stockpiling talent.
