When Lane Kiffin took the head coach job at LSU football, he brought offensive coordinator Charlie Weis along from Ole Miss. The pair have history together at other stops and Kiffin talked about it during SEC media day.
"Charlie has done a great job," Kiffin said. "It's been awesome to see someone develop as a coach's kid and see him go through his growth."
Kiffin and Weis first linked up coaching the Alabama offense under Nick Saban. Weis worked two stints under Kiffin at FAU then came to Ole Miss after two seasons at South Florida. His talents left an impression on Kiffin, making him essential for the fresh start at LSU.
Despite taking the offensive coordinator role with the Tigers, Weis remained with the Rebels through the College Football Playoffs. He helped them make the semifinals before moving to Baton Rouge and Kiffin ensured Weis got his flowers.
"We bounce things off each other. I chime in on game days but Charlie nowadays does the whole thing," Kiffin said. "I'm really happy how it happened that he got the credit offensively when I wasn't there for a couple games in the playoffs and how well they did on offense."
