Miami Hurricanes Scheduled to Host Five-Star Recruit Against In-State Rival

MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes' 2027 recruiting class remains among the top of the nation’s rankings, according to On3 (third) and 247Sports (fourth). It’s an elite group that consists of 20 prolific players, including five-stars Donte Wright, Nick Lennear, and Jaiden Bryant.
Given the near completion, the program can look forward to 2028. The Hurricanes already received a couple of verbal commits from three-star quarterback Knox Annis and four-star offensive tackle Kweli Fielder. However, an elite edge rusher could be on the cusp of joining “The U’s” future.
Asher Ghioto is a five-star recruit who currently attends The Bolles School, a private institution located in Jacksonville. In two seasons, he’s logged 150 total tackles, 113 solos and 37 assists, 56 tackles for loss, 30 sacks (23 as a sophomore), and an interception in 27 total games, according to MaxPreps.
Already, the consensus top-10 2028 prospect has made five unofficial visits to the Coral Gables campus. However, a busy fall is approaching. Ghioto is reportedly visiting six schools during the 2026 College Football season.
The schedule:
– Notre Dame (Sept. 6) vs. Wisconsin
– Texas (Sept. 12) vs. Ohio State
– Georgia (Sept. 26) vs. Oklahoma
– Texas A&M (Oct. 2) – A day before facing Arkansas
– Miami (Oct. 17) vs. Florida State
– South Carolina (Oct. 24) – Two days before facing Alabama at Tuscaloosa
– Florida (Nov. 7) vs. Oklahoma
Ghioto holds over 50 scholarship offers, including several Power Four programs. However, the Hurricanes could emerge as the most-sensible destination. Ghioto would develop under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. He played a significant role in Akheem Mesidor and All-American Rueben Bain Jr.’s development – both first-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft. Ghioto already has the talent, but needs the right guidance to reach a greater level.
The Hurricanes currently have momentum in securing the highly-touted recruit’s commitment. Rivals gives the program a 67.1 prediction-leading percentage and 247Sports State of Florida recruit reporter Zach Blostein Crystal Ball’d him to land with “The U,” including a medium level of confidence.
Although Mesidor and Bain Jr. depart for the pros, the Hurricanes are nothing short of excellent edge rushers. Marquise Lightfoot, Missouri transfer Damon Wilson II, Hayden Lowe, and Armondo Blount are expected to pick up where they left off without any setback.
Ghioto has the opportunity to join Taylor’s room of gems, but a decision will likely take time before the program’s Football Executive Dennis Smith makes the announcement.
