Texas A&M Tight Ends Could Give Marcel Reed a New Weapon

Texas A&M football may have a loaded wide receiver room, but the Aggies’ most important offensive weapon could come from a position that rarely steals the spotlight.

Senior Micah Riley enters the 2026 season as the projected leader of Texas A&M’s tight end rotation, carrying the difficult assignment of replacing Nate Boerkircher after his third-round selection in the NFL Draft.

Riley is already respected as a physical blocker and one of five team captains. Now he must prove he can become a dependable target for quarterback Marcel Reed.

That development could reshape Holmon Wiggins’ first Texas A&M offense.

Wiggins has spent much of his career coaching receivers, including stops at Alabama and Texas A&M, so plenty of 11-personnel looks should be expected.

Still, the new offensive coordinator has made it clear that the Aggies aren’t turning into an all-out Air Raid operation. Establishing the run will remain a priority, making Riley’s blocking ability critical.

But Riley won’t be working alone.

Houston Thomas arrives after catching 34 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns last season.

The 6-5, nearly 250-pound College Station native enters his final college campaign with 916 career receiving yards, the fifth-most among returning tight ends.

Thomas looked comfortable as a pass catcher during the Maroon & White Game and could quickly become Reed’s security blanket between the numbers.

His 68.3 receiving grade and 67.5 pass-blocking mark from his final season at UTSA show why Texas A&M wanted him.

The concern is his run blocking. Thomas posted a 46.5 grade in that area, which could limit his snaps when the Aggies want to lean on their ground game.

When Reed lines up in shotgun and Texas A&M needs to attack the seams, Thomas should be difficult to keep off the field.

Transfer Richie Anderson and redshirt freshman Kiotti Armstrong give Wiggins two more options, creating a rotation with enough size and versatility to keep defenses guessing.

That matters because opponents will already be worried about Mario Craver and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton outside.

If safeties shade toward those receivers, Riley and Thomas should find space in the middle. If linebackers widen into coverage, Texas A&M can hammer the ball on the ground.

The Aggies don’t need one tight end to replace everything Boerkircher provided.

They need the entire room to become a problem, and Reed may be the biggest beneficiary.
