Welcome to the Recruiting Roundup, our three-times-per-week series breaking down the latest developments on the recruiting trail for the Michigan Wolverines. We’ll keep you up to date on the top targets, the visits they take, the predictions that analysts make, and everything in between. Here’s what you need to know today…
QB prospect visiting Michigan for Iowa game
One of the fastest rising quarterbacks in the 2028 class will soon be in Ann Arbor for a game day. According to The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($), three-star Jamar Howard is set to take a trip for Michigan’s matchup vs Iowa on Sept. 26.
In his report, Marich said Howard is “considered a top target for next cycle” and is “up there with several guys right now.”
Howard (6-foot-3 and 205 pounds) is the No. 27 quarterback and No. 385 overall prospect in his class, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. The California native saw his recruitment skyrocket this spring, earning offers from Oregon, Auburn, Colorado, Cal and others before getting his Michigan offer in late March. He has since added offers from North Carolina, Ole Miss, Utah and others since then as well.
As a sophomore in 2025, Howard completed 150-of-293 passes for 2,251 yards, 32 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also ran 70 times for 182 yards and an additional five touchdowns.
The Wolverines will be looking to add another top quarterback to the team during the 2028 recruiting cycle. Other early targets include five-star Georgia commit Jayden Wade, five-star Christopher Vargas, four-star Kaden Craft and four-star Carter Zingelmann, among others.
Top 100 LB talks recent Michigan offer and visit
Top 100 four-star linebacker Andre Alexander is among the best players at his position in the 2028 class. At 6-foot-0.5 and 215 pounds, Alexander is from the state of Virginia but moved down to Florida to play high school football at IMG Academy.
Alexander has earned around 20 offers since the start of the year, including from Michigan, a school he visited for the first time back in June. He also took trips to Texas A&M, Georgia and Florida this summer, while schools like Tennessee, Miami and others are in contact with him.
Speaking with Rivals’ Chad Simmons ($), Alexander broke down what he liked about Michigan.
“I definitely like the way they coach,” Alexander said. “They definitely have a big history, and they represent it very well down there. I’m looking forward to learning more about that program.”
Alexander also shared what he is ultimately looking for in his future school.
“The main three things are relationships with the coaches, putting linebackers in the league and having an opportunity to play early,” he said. “I have not really had time to talk with my parents about visits to games yet, and I have not thought about cutting my list down yet, but that should start happening during the season.
“I’m definitely paying attention to who’s reaching out the most. I’m seeing which ones really want me the most and who really loves me.”
Linebacker figures to be a position of need (again) in the 2028 class, so keep an eye on Alexander and other top recruits at the position moving forward.
